Hey everyone. I am 23 years old and have been living in Washington DC for the past year. I grew up in a small town in Indiana for the first 18 years of my life. I then began my college education at Indiana Wesleyan University and later transferred to Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I recently graduated and moved to our nation’s Capital to begin my career in Social Work.
This year has been nothing close to normal. Moving from the Midwest to the East Coast, graduating college and beginning adulthood in a city where I only knew a handful of people has caused major change. I have been able to work at a nonprofit organization where I work with families to ensure the safety of children within the home. 2016 has been a year marked by professional and spiritual growth.
I grew up going to church, attending summer camps and different youth group events, understanding that there was a God but not fully surrendering to Him. Throughout college, I met life long friends that not only challenged me in my daily life decisions, but more importantly my faith. In my second year of college I participated in a Proverbs 31 bible study that showed me what it meant to not only talk as a believer but learning to walk as one too.
God has been so faithful to me and endlessly shows up. I was in the process of applying to grad school when God continuously showed me signs that The World Race was where He was leading me. The only mission trip I have been on is to Auckland, New Zealand, in 2013 with the Athletic Department of Indiana Wesleyan. I never saw missions as a huge part of my future, but then again I never thought I would move 8 hours away from my family. If God says yes, He means it.
My love for Jesus, travel, and serving others have collided together and I could not be more excited to begin this journey. As I prepare for my launch in August 2017, I would love for you to follow and pray for me as I begin this transition.
1 Peter 4:10
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
I felt a special connection with the fact that we have the same name and both claim xsquad as ours! I’ll be praying for you throughout this journey, I can’t wait to see what God does in and through you! Feel free to shoot me an email if you have any specific prayer requests 🙂
