When I first signed up for the race I was so excited to meet new people, serve in other countries and do different ministries. I remember checking out a video of a previous racer who was painting a mural and jamming to worship music with her team. I was intrigued by this for some reason.

In month one my team joked around about being the #ArtTeam. We are now in month five. Out of those five months I have painted at least one wall in every country but Greece. As each month has passed the painting becomes redundant.

Listening to music. Trying to come up with new conversations. Covering the walls with the same paint. My arms sore from the same movements.

The other day while I was on the ladder by myself I started complaining to God.

“God I really just don’t want to do this”
“I do not want to paint anymore”

Then the conviction happened.
As much as I love interacting with others and helping the direct need this is where God has me.
Just because I am painting does not mean I am not helping. In reality I am helping this ministry by restoring their offices. In other months I was also serving.

It says in 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

It sure does feel like its in vain sometimes but God is really teaching me what it is like to be back stage. To do the work no one really wants to do but it needs done. The work where you are not in the spot light being praised. To have the same yes heart with painting as I do with helping the refugee move into a tent. While I paint and get the offices restored, the staff is able to focus on rescuing the underaged girls.

On that note, if you need some painting done the Radiant Rubies are willing come June 2018.

  1. Love this blog, Britt! Thanks for your vulnerability and your willingness to share!! (Also, you should for real be an outfit repeater with that ‘ministry getup’).
