Hey friends. Enjoy some lessons, tips, and stories from my fundraising journey.
Humility.
This one was so difficult for me at the beginning of my fundraising journey. I have never had to ask others for money or anything for that matter because my family has always been there to provide for me. My family was not going to hand over 18,000 dollars to me so I had to ask others to join my journey. I thought I was too good to ask others and felt like I was begging for money at the beginning. The more into the process the more humble I became.
Posting on Social Media may be annoying but do it.
I got to a point where I was posting every single day and even though I did not want to annoy my followers I knew that it was helping me. So I continued doing it.
Be creative
This included being strategic in my posts on social media, different fundraisers that others would want to be involved in and asking those I had not seen in awhile to support me. Another huge thing was my t-shirts. I knew my first t-shirt people bought because of the cause. They wanted to support me so they bought the t-shirt. My second t-shirt had to be cute and something someone would want to buy so I focused specifically on females.
People you have never met will support you.
It is true. Generous, loving people saw what I was doing and they wanted to be apart of my journey so they entrusted me with their money and gave to my world race.
5. There are people that do not believe in God that supported me.
Yup, you heard that right. I told people about what I was doing and they wanted to support me. They thought this experience was amazing and even though they do not follow God they gave anyway. That is amazing to me.
6. The power of prayer
I raised 3,000 dollars from people that were unsure about my journey. At the beginning they did not want me to go.They were nervous, uneasy and would not even talk to me about my trip. I prayed hard and had others praying. God spoke to them and they came through.
7. Fasting
I fasted food for two days because I was a few days away from a deadline and still needed 1,700 dollars. Three days after my fast I had exceeded my deadline.
8. God told me to trust Him.
He often tells me to trust him but I felt led to do another social media fast this month. I did not want to do it until I was fully funded because I needed to post (Refer to #2). He was saying just trust me. So I began my fast on November 10th. That morning I woke up and had $520 dollars in my fundraising account.
9. I have friends and family that love me like crazy.
This is a little sappy but really. Thank you all for your support the past year. You continue to push me when I wanted to give up on fundraising. You always asked how I was doing and helped me brainstorm ways to get the money. You gave your weekly tithes to my race and trusted that this journey was going to benefit not only me but also the world. My heart is full and this experience has been able to happen because of every single one of you.
10. God comes through at the last minute for my own sake.
What I mean by this is that days before each deadline I would meet it. God could have given me my funded easily. He did not though because this taught me to lean on Him. I literally have to trust in Him and have built a deeper relationship with Him just thought fundraising. His promises are Yes and Amen and He called me on this trip. I know that the funds will be there by November 30th but God put me in situations to be patient, trust and lean on HIm.
Y’all I have 11 days left to be fully funded. I would love for y’all to share what I am doing with friends and family. I would love for you to skip your Starbucks one morning and donate that 6 dollars. I would love for you to pray about my trip and see what God is leading you to give. I have been so blessed by many lessons and stories that have happened through this journey. I have been blessed to have raised over 15,000 dollars. I am not fully funded yet but I remember how huge 18,000 dollars seemed in November 2016. Now here I am with only a little bit left.
